The panel patent war has started. BOE, the largest panel manufacturer in China, sued Samsung Electronics of Korea for patent infringement, and sued six cases in one breath.
According to Sina.com, according to the public service website of Chongqing Court, BOE Technology Group has added a number of court announcements, and the plaintiffs include, in addition to the company, Chongqing BOE Display Technology Co, Ltd. and Chengdu BOE Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd., and the defendants include Shanghai Samsung Semiconductor Ltd., Samsung (China) Investment Co., Ltd., Dongguan Samsung Vision Co., Ltd., Samsung Semiconductor (Xi’an) Co., Ltd., Tianjin Samsung Vision Mobile Co., Ltd., and many other Samsung-related companies, as well as Chongqing Jingdong Jiapin Trading Co., Ltd. Invention patent disputes, all cases are heard in Chongqing No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court.
It is reported that in 2022, BOE’s annual R&D investment will be as high as RMB 12.602 billion, accounting for 7.06% of the revenue; the cumulative number of independent patent applications exceeds 80,000, of which flexible OLED related patent applications exceed 28,000. Among the annual new patent applications, patent applications in cutting-edge technology fields such as flexible OLED, sensing, artificial intelligence, and big data accounted for more than 50%.
In addition, BOE has ranked among the global TOP20 in the IFI US patent authorization list for five consecutive years, and ranked 11th in the 2022 IFI patent authorization list in 2022 with 2,195 patent authorizations; and according to the 2022 global PCT international patent application ranking published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in February this year, BOE ranked seventh in the 2022 global PCT international patent application ranking with 1,884 PCT patent applications, ranking among the global TOP10 for the seventh consecutive year.
