Clarivate announced “2024 Top 100 Global Innovative Institutions Report” yesterday (5th), ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute) won the Top 100 Global Innovative Institutions Award for the eighth time. Only three research institutions in the world were selected this year, and ITRI was one of them and set a record for the most awards among R&D institutions in the Asia-Pacific region.
ITRI’s patent power has outstanding performance in five major indicators: technological uniqueness, influence, globalization, successful footprint and quantity. ITRI is comparable to international famous companies such as ASML, GE, Johnson & Johnson, Siemens and so on, and has a remarkable achievement in innovation.
ITRI uses market-oriented international patent layout and R&D strategies to strengthen its patent structure year by year and cultivate Taiwan’s industrial intellectual energy, wherein approximately 85% of the patents are research and development results subsidized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ science and technology projects, 723 science and technology patents will be transferred (including new ventures) in 2023, and the cumulative number of valid patents reaches 16,137.
Liu Wen-shiong, President of ITRI, said that ITRI’s winning of the Global Top 100 Innovative Institutions Award for the eighth time not only demonstrates ITRI’s focus on cross-field and forward-looking research and development and its successful use of multiple high-value patent strategies, but also demonstrates ITRI’s intellectual property management strategy is robust and the direction is right, which is reached the international first-class level and has global influence.
ITRI indicated that facing opportunities and challenges in the new era, ITRI arranged “2035 Technology Strategy and Road Map” to focus on four major application areas: smart life, healthy and happy life, sustainable environment, and resilient society. Moreover, ITRI promoted the development of smart enabling technologies in application fields and provided industries with innovative and market-worthy solutions.
ITRI worked with the industries to create new value and sustainable development in a manner of innovative application models of intellectual property rights, such as new business cultivation, patent and technology intangible asset financing and IPIC (Intellectual Property Innovation Corporation), which has assisted 57 domestic small and medium-sized companies and start-ups to apply for intangible assets financing, wherein 28 companies successfully obtained intangible asset financing of more than 500 million yuan through patent evaluation financing or technology value-added financing.
ITRI stated that in view of the development trends, such as net-zero emissions in 2050, super-aged society and generative AI, ITRI will check and develop corresponding patent energy, and establish a high-quality patent pool.
