A couple in Taichung was selling a “two-player joystick arcade machine having newly upgraded Moonlight Box with 20,000 built-in games” on the internet, and claiming that it contained classic games from major game companies including Sony and Nintendo. They were caught by the Intellectual Property Investigation Team of the Criminal Investigation Bureau, and the game agent confirmed that the value of the infringement was over 800 million TWD. The case was transferred for investigation under the Copyright Law.
It is understood that a couple named Zhan and Chan imported this “two-player joystick arcade machine having newly upgraded Moonlight Box with 20,000 built-in games” through a mainland manufacturer, and claiming that it contained many classic games such as PSP game Dynasty Warriors collection, N64 game Super Speed Car, DC representative game King of Fighters collection, etc., and attracted consumers to buy it with low prices ranging from 800 TWD to 3,200 TWD.
The police found out that the couple was located in Taichung City through their computer IP addresses. After more than two months of ambush and investigation, the police arrested the couple in a warehouse in Nantun District, Taichung City on October 15 last year. The police also seized 119 large arcade machines and handheld game consoles and 945,871 pirated games. According to statistics, more than 4,000 of machines and games have been sold on the internet. Confirmed by manufacturers such as Nintendo and Sony, the market value of the infringement exceeds 800 million TWD.
The police said that the couple used the Internet platform to openly sell game consoles with unauthorized game software to make huge profits, which seriously infringed intellectual property rights. The couple was transferred to the Changhua District Prosecutor’s Office in Taiwan for investigation under the Copyright Act, and is continuing to trace the source of the pirated game consoles and software.
