Headlamp component manufacturer TYC (stock code 1522) was sued for patent infringement by South Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia in 2021. On the 29th, TYC issued a material information announcement stating that all parties have reached a settlement for the case.

TYC stated that all parties have formally signed a settlement agreement and mutually agreed not to assert any further claims or file lawsuits related to this matter. Due to confidentiality clauses in the agreement, the specific details of the settlement will not be disclosed.

In June 2021, TYC announced that Hyundai and Kia had filed a civil patent infringement lawsuit against TYC and its U.S. subsidiary, GENERA CORP, in the California courts, alleging infringement on headlamp patents, including patent number 478,931.

TYC immediately appointed lawyers together with its U.S. subsidiary to handle the case. After four years of litigation, the companies signed a settlement agreement on the 29th, officially concluding the case. TYC indicated that the matter did not have a significant negative impact on the company’s finances or business operations.

In fact, this is not the first time that a Taiwanese headlamp manufacturer has been sued by foreign automakers. In 2019, Hyundai also filed a related patent infringement lawsuit against Taiwan’s automobile lighting maker DEPO (stock code 6605) and its U.S. subsidiary in the United States, which was settled the following year.
