A patent battle has erupted in the field of touch controller ICs. Elan Microelectronics Corporation (2458), a leading IC design company, announced yesterday (the 3rd) that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against another Taiwanese IC design company, ILITEK, and its distributor, NeoView Technology. Elan has been cultivating the touch controller IC field for more than 20 years and has accumulated substantial patent strength, securing a leading position in various touch IC application markets.

Elan stated that the company discovered ILITEK’s manufacture and sale of capacitive touch chips allegedly infringed its invention patent rights. After an evaluation by commissioned patent attorneys, it was determined that the capacitive touch chips fell within the scope of Elan’s ROC Invention Patent No. I425402. Consequently, Elan filed a civil patent infringement lawsuit against ILITEK and its distributor NeoView with the Intellectual Property and Commercial Court.

In addition to requesting the court to eliminate and prohibit the defendants’ acts of patent infringement, Elan is also seeking damages from the defendants. Elan emphasized that the company has long focused on technological innovation and R&D, and will certainly take legal action against any suspected infringement of its patent rights to protect its intellectual property and shareholders’ interests.
