A man surnamed Huang from Kaohsiung City purchased 580 “Apple” charging cables and power adapters from China’s Taobao website and had them air-shipped to Taiwan. However, the shipment was intercepted and inspected by customs, revealing that all of the items were counterfeit. Although Huang claimed innocence, saying that the Taobao seller told him the products were “genuine Apple originals”, the Kaohsiung Qiaotou District Court did not accept his defense and sentenced him to five months in prison for trademark infringement.
The court ruling stated that in December 2022, Huang purchased charging cables and power adapters bearing the Apple trademark from Taobao. Among them were 200 cables each measuring one meter and two meters in length, as well as 180 power adapters. On February 8, 2023, he commissioned an air freight company to import the products into Taiwan. However, Taipei Customs officials found the shipment suspicious during inspection and sent several of the charging cables to Data Express Digital Technology for authentication, which confirmed that all the items were counterfeit.
