FocalTech Systems Co., Ltd. (3545), a driver IC manufacturer, announced on August 11 that Elan Microelectronics Corp. had previously alleged that FocalTech and two of its subsidiaries infringed on its patent rights and filed a lawsuit with the Intellectual Property and Commercial Court seeking, among other remedies, an injunction against the alleged infringement. The court has now issued its first-instance ruling, dismissing Elan’s lawsuit and its application for provisional enforcement. The court also ordered Elan to bear the litigation costs. FocalTech stated that the case currently has no impact on the company’s financial condition or business operations.
According to FocalTech’s announcement, Elan filed the lawsuit on September 1, 2025, against FocalTech and its subsidiaries, FocalTech Electronics, Ltd. and FocalTech Systems, Ltd. The case was heard by the Intellectual Property and Commercial Court, with Elan alleging that FocalTech and the relevant subsidiaries had infringed its patent rights.
FocalTech said it was notified by its appointed attorneys today that the first-instance ruling ordered that “the plaintiff’s claims and application for provisional enforcement are both dismissed.” The court further ordered the plaintiff, Elan, to bear the litigation costs. The ruling therefore represents a favorable first-instance outcome for FocalTech in the patent infringement lawsuit.
Regarding the ruling, FocalTech emphasized that the case currently has no impact on the company’s financial condition or business operations. As for subsequent legal proceedings, the company said that if Elan appeals the first-instance judgment, FocalTech will consult with its appointed attorneys and proceed in accordance with the law to protect the company’s rights and interests.
