Liberty Times e-Edition, August 4, 2026

[Reporter Fang Wei-chieh / Taipei] LED manufacturer Everlight (2393) said today that, following its previous lawsuits against Lumileds and SSC, it filed a patent infringement suit on July 30 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Southern Division, against Nichia Corporation, accusing Nichia of infringing Everlight’s U.S. flip-chip patent US 7554126 through the manufacture and sale of its high-power LED products.

Everlight said that in the lawsuit, its US 7554126 patent covers LED flip-chip and packaging processes. By adjusting the area ratio between the N and P electrodes, it enables strong adhesion between the LED chip and solder, achieving both efficient heat dissipation and high packaging reliability. This key technology has a wide range of applications: in addition to flash LED products, it is also suitable for automotive LEDs, high-power lighting, and display applications, making it a core technology in LED flip-chip packaging.

Everlight added that it also holds patents for this technology in Japan, China, and other regions, but that Nichia has used it in certain LED products. The patent can be applied not only to optical components for mobile devices, but also across a broad range of fields, including consumer electronics components, lighting, filament, UVC, automotive optical-component LEDs, CSP, backlight, flash, as well as Mini and Micro LEDs. The company’s assertion of its patent rights is primarily intended to protect innovative R&D成果 and to encourage industry development.

Everlight reiterated that when it comes to unlawful infringement in the market, it has always taken legal action when necessary and will not show leniency, in keeping with its consistent stance of defending respect for intellectual property rights. The company will continue to invest in and expand its capabilities in technology and product R&D, manufacturing, and design, while deepening its intellectual property portfolio to strengthen product competitiveness. It has already obtained a number of key patents in the U.S., China, Japan, Europe, South Korea, and Taiwan, and will continue providing customers with high-quality services and products.
